Client Success - Helen Story

Background: Helen, a netball player and busy mum of two, reached out to The Wellness Mentor after struggling to maintain consistency with traditional fitness programs. Despite multiple attempts—joining gyms, working with personal trainers, and trying fitness apps—she struggled to stay motivated and juggle her busy life. She wanted to boost her performance on the netball court, lose some weight, and ultimately, achieve long-term health benefits.

Challenges: Helen struggled to find a fitness routine that fit her family life. With two children and numerous activities to attend, getting to the gym was often impossible. Helen had tried various solutions, but struggled to stay consistent for longer than 4 weeks at a time. She had used apps like Couch to 5k in the past and whilst they provided convenience, they couldn’t offer the personalised support she needed.

The Service Helen Opted For: After speaking with Helen in her initial consultation we agreed that 1-1 online coaching with The Wellness Mentor was the best service to meet Helen's needs. This would allow me to consult with Helen twice per month to address her challenges and create her a tailored, and manageable home workout program and physical activity plan. In our coaching calls, we addressed topics such as low motivation and mood, adequately fueling workouts as a vegan, sleep, time management, stress reduction and more.

Helen's Breakthrough: One of the biggest shifts for Helen wasn’t just physical—it was mental. Initially focused on losing weight, she soon realised that her deeper goal was long-term health and sustainable lifestyle changes. Through our regular check-ins and personalised advice, Helen learned to focus less on the scales and more on setting realistic, non-weight-related goals. In doing this, she established consistency, felt stronger, and developed a more positive relationship with exercise and nutrition.

What Worked For Success: Helen said that our regular catch-ups were a key factor in her success. These bi-monthly sessions helped her stay motivated even on tough days. With her newfound confidence and energy, Helen even achieved her goal of completing a 5.25-mile swim in Coniston Lake.
