Background: Amy, 36, a busy professional was balancing long shifts and night shifts, and although physically active doing 30 minute HIIT based workouts 5 times per week - she felt frazzled and not seeing results. Despite her best efforts, she struggled to make time for herself and prioritise her overall health. The workout app she used to keep fit wasn’t addressing her needs, leaving her feeling frustrated and stagnant. 

Challenges: Before starting her journey with The Wellness Mentor, Amy was stuck in a frustrating routine. While she tried following an on-demand fitness program via a popular workout app, she wasn’t addressing the areas that truly needed attention—like daily movement, stress reduction, sleep and proper nutrition.

The Service Amy Opted For: Amy reached out to me in search of 1-1 guidance and coaching to help her feel stronger and more energised. In our initial consultation we spoke about the elements that could improve Amy’s energy around her changing shift patterns, this included adequate fuel and nutrients, increasing non-activity movement, and reducing her 5 HIIT workouts per week to 2 full body strength-based workouts per week. The plan was to help Amy regain some energy, and then we would build from there.

Amy’s Breakthrough:  Amy's biggest breakthrough was realising that an increase in calories was essential to improve her energy and motivation.

 

“When starting with you I wasn’t eating enough or moving from my desk. We focused in on this from the start and put the workouts down after...it made a huge difference to my energy.”

What Worked For Success:  Instead of jumping straight into intense workouts, we prioritised increasing Amy’s daily steps and adjusting her food intake. Together, we established what exactly Amy was working towards and I helped her set micro goals to work towards each day. Amy felt in control of her plan while receiving consistent guidance. 

 

“There was zero pressure to achieve anything I didn’t want to. I was in control of my plan but was guided by you throughout."

 

By moving the focus away from body weight, Amy was able to connect with how she felt physically and emotionally. We worked together to challenge any barriers she was facing in exercise, low motivation, and the peaks and dips in energy that occurred around her menstrual cycle. By considering the bigger picture of health and wellness we were able to adjust and adapt as needed so that Amy could remain consistent.

Our regular video call check-ins helped Amy to remain motivated. These calls provided a space for Amy to ask questions and ensure her daily actions were aligned with her goals.

From the beginning, we laid the foundations for a healthy lifestyle and maintained these basic core principles to promote good health and wellness. Once the basics were covered and with more energy, we introduced new challenges to reach Amy's goal of increasing her strength. As a result of sticking to a consistent routine, Amy improved her energy levels, increased muscle mass, and felt more confident in her body.
